Virus protection Tips:

Here are some tips you can use to protect your computer against cyber parasites.

  • Install an anti Spyware program. Some of the free programs are Ad-Aware and Spybot.

  • Stay away from free peer-to-peer file swapping sites. LimeWire, Kazaa and eDonkey are some examples. The paid services such as Napster and iTunes are fine.

  • Consider investing on a firewall. Software based firewalls require configuration that may be complex. A hardware based firewall is a much better tool to fight the cyber attackers.

  • A virus protection program is a must. Symantec Norton and McAfee are two popular programs to consider. Installing the program alone is not enough. You need to configure the software and keep the virus definition file up to date.

  • Gambling and porn sites are virus/spyware infested. Your anti-virus and spyware programs may not give you a full protection here.

Web Design Tips:

1. keeping your website fresh is very important if you want to have repeat visitors. If a site remains static, people stop visiting it again.

2. Redesigning your website every once a year can make your website more interesting. You can also add new feature to your site as you go along.

3. Also try to use dynamic content to your advantage. To do this you can use one of the following methods:

  • CGI or javascript scripting to create content
  • using cookies to track visits, and customize content
  • randomizing graphics, logos, etc.

4. Avoid using things that have been done over and over such as:

  • page counters
  • Text scrolling
  • Excessive animated .GIF's
  • page fade-ins, etc.

5. Here are some general guidelines you can follow for layout and design:

  • Your first page is like an introduction. It should be very attractive.
  • Use good styles, colors and fonts.
  • Check spelling of your pages.
  • Use text formatting.

6. Your main page shouldn't be too large - not more than 50K - 60K. This could take up to a few seconds to load normally. Avoid large graphics on your pages. Use thumbnails that could lead to the actual image.
